ABOUT THE PROJECT
Funded by Arts Council England, Laila Latifa’s Whispers Of Tradition is a creative project which aims to bridge the gap between Celtic and Maghrebi cultures by exploring folk narratives from both cultures.
Laila Latifa is a playwright from London. See ‘About Me’ section for more on Laila.
This project delves deep into the connections between these seemingly distinct cultures, offering insights from Moroccan and Irish voices straight from their home countries.
Travelling to both Morocco and Ireland, through intensive research and authentic storytelling, this project uncovers the shared human experiences that unite these two vibrant cultures, which are part of Laila Latifas’ own heritage.
WHERE?
Laila will be traveling to multiple cities to uncover the narratives and histories of people who share her heritage. Laila’s journey will take her to:
Morocco: Marrakesh, Casablanca, Tangier and Chefchaouen
Ireland: Dublin, Glendalough and Galway
Addressing the lack of representation for mixed-race Maghrebi-Gaelic artists, Whispers Of Tradition provides a platform for their stories.
Exploring Moroccan and Irish folktales, Laila aims to work in cross-border storytelling, sharing their unheard narratives, celebrating Maghrebi and Irish communities globally.
WHY?
Laila will be archiving her findings, sharing them through this website so you also can explore these stories that carry so much magic!
